Earlier in the day, security forces had engaged Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad area, eliminating five insurgents, including two women. The operation led to the recovery of automatic weapons, such as AK-47s and Self-Loading Rifles. It was during their return from this mission that the DRG team fell victim to the ambush.
The District Reserve Guard, a specialised unit focused on countering Maoist activities, suffered a significant blow in the attack. Images from the site revealed a massive crater caused by the powerful IED explosion.
