ICC likely to propose hybrid mode for champions trophy, calls meeting on November 29
PTC News Desk: The International Cricket Council is likely to propose hybrid model for the 2025 leg of the Champions Trophy. The cricket event is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in February 2025.
The ICC has summoned a meeting with board of directors on November 29 to have considerate discussions regarding the venue of the champions trophy. The development comes after India's refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially not announced yet about India's plan for the tournament, however it has informed PCB and ICC about their plans. As per the reports PCB is unlikely to give its credence for the hybrid matches, however with the growing inclination of ICC towards conducting the matches in hybrid, India's neighboring country will not be left with much of a choice.
According to the reports, Pakistan Cricket Board has yet not agreed for the hybrid model of the tournament which stated that 10 matches will be played in Pakistan and five in another country including one semi-final and the final and discussions for the same are expected to be proposed during the meeting on Thursday.
According to the Cricbuzz report, “As a potential compromise, the ICC may strive to minimise the impact of the hybrid model and may agree to host both semifinals and the final in Pakistan itself in the unlikely scenario of India failing to qualify for the last four or last two stages. While such an arrangement would pose serious operational and logistical challenges, this concession might be offered to the PCB given the extraordinary circumstances. The venues will be kept ready in advance with all required hotel and travel bookings."
Besides Pakistan, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are potential options where ICC can host India matches. South Africa is also at frontrunner.
