Clicking on the scam's provided link takes users to a compromised website that collects personal information. To avoid falling victim to such malicious activities, exercise caution online and confirm the legitimacy of unexpected or distressing posts, particularly those involving personal emergencies.

What is "I can't believe he's gone" scam?

The scam consists of a post with a variation of 'I can't believe he's gone. I'll miss him so much," and a link.

"When you come across unexpected or alarming posts, especially those about personal emergencies, take a moment to verify their legitimacy before clicking any links," says Marijus Briedis, NordVPN's cybersecurity expert.

In a blog post, he mentions that clicking the play button may result in fingerprinting, which gathers information about your browser, location, and previous visits. "The scammers do this to make sure you are redirected to a site that is likely to generate the most profit from people fitting your profile," he stated.

How to protect yourself from such scams?

Verify Information: Before sharing or engaging with alarming news, double-check it with trustworthy sources.
