PTC News Desk: At least 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Express train bound for Mumbai derailed in Jharkhand Tuesday morning. According to reports, 2 people died and 20 others were injured in the accident.

The Howara-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, about 80 kilometres from Jamshedpur. Rescue personnel were dispatched to the location soon after the accident came to light. Rescue and relief efforts are underway.

According to senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan, a goods train derailed nearby, however, it is unclear whether the two accidents occurred at the same time.

He added that 16 of the 18 coaches that derailed were passenger coaches, one was a power car, and one was a pantry car.

The injured were given first aid by the Railways' medical staff and have since been sent to Chakradharpur for further treatment.

The actual reason for the derailment is being investigated, they said.
