A senior geologist said that the situation needs to be investigated, whether this is related to the recent eruption in Joshimath.

Hours after Uttarakhand announces Char Dham yatra, fresh cracks reported on Badrinath highway

Dehradun, February 20: Fresh cracks spotted on Badrinath highway near Joshimath ahead of Char Dham yatra announced the date on Monday.

The cracks were seen on the highway, and its also said there is a fear of landslide which can take place. It has been reported that large cracks has was spotted on 10 sides of the highway near Badrinath. As per the reports the District Collector’s office has not yet responded to the crackdown.

A senior geologist said that it is an alarming issue and whether this is related to the recent eruption in Joshimath, it needs be investigated. It is a concerning issue as the announcement of Char Dham yatra has been made. According to the locals, the crack has appeared in a 10 km range between Joshimath and Marwari Marg. This highway connects the main road of the temple town. 

One of the activists Sanjay Uniyal of ‘Save Joshimath Sangharsh Samiti’, said the rifts which were earlier visible are now getting bigger. The administration was given the task of closing the cracks that had appeared earlier.
