Home theatre explosion: Newly wed woman's jilted lover puts bomb in device, gives as wedding gift

PTC Web Desk: The Chhattisgarh Police have cracked the home theatre music system explosion case reported from Kabirdham district. A former lover of a newly married woman has been arrested for allegedly planting a bomb in the device to kill the couple.

The accused has been identified as Sarju Markam and the deceased as woman's husband Hemendra Merawi (30) and his brother Rajkumar (32). 


Sarju Markam has been arrested from Balaghat. His involvement in the crime surfaced during the probe, Kabirdham Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh said.

During the investigation, the accused revealed that he had gifted the home theatre music system to the couple after planting the explosive in it to kill them.

Hemendra Merawi  of Chamari village had married a 29-year-old woman from earby Anjana village on March 31. The wedding reception was on April 1. On Monday, when Merawi switched on the home theatre device, it exploded. He died on the spot. His brother succumbed to the injuries at the district hospital, he added.

During the investigation, the forensic team found traces of gunpowder  after which family members of the bride and groom were questioned.

It is learnt that the newly wed woman was in constant touch with the accused. However, she had stopped talking to him after her marriage got fixed with Merawi.

The accused used ammonium nitrate, petrol and gunpowder retrieved from firecrackers, weighing about 2 kg, to make the bomb and fitted it inside the home theatre. He used the device power supply as a mechanism to trigger the blast, said the police.
