Himachal weather update: Rain and storm alert issued for April 18 and 19
Himachal weather update: The weather in Himachal Pradesh has remained clear since this morning, leading to intense heat in the plains. The weather is expected to remain clear across the state tomorrow as well. However, a fresh Western Disturbance is set to become active from the day after tomorrow, with its impact likely to persist for the next five days.
According to the Meteorological Department, light rainfall is expected in higher altitude areas on April 16 and 17. However, widespread rainfall is likely across most parts of the state on April 18 and 19. An orange alert has been issued for these two days, warning of hailstorms, strong winds, and thunderstorms.
After a significant drop in temperature due to rain and snowfall two days ago, the past 24 hours have seen a notable rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures owing to clear skies. The maximum temperature has increased by 5.2°C, and the minimum by 2.6°C.
Kalpa recorded the highest surge, with a 10.6°C rise in maximum temperature, reaching 19.2°C. Manali saw an 8.1°C increase, now at 22.8°C. Keylong's temperature rose by 7.2°C to 16.7°C, Shimla's maximum temperature increased by 6.6°C to 23.2°C, and Solan recorded a 7.8°C rise, touching 28°C.
Himachal Pradesh has experienced 39% below-normal rainfall during the post-winter season. As per the Meteorological Department, the state typically receives 140.4 mm of rainfall between March 1 and April 12. This year, only 86 mm of rainfall has been recorded. Mandi is the only district to have received 5% more rainfall than normal, while all other districts have recorded below-average precipitation.
