Himachal Pradesh: Cops kill resort manager over food, alcohol denial; 2 held amid outrage
PTC News Desk: In a shocking turn of events, two cops were arrested for allegedly killing a resort manager and injuring a staff member at Banikhet in Chamba district during New Year celebration. The deceased manager has been identified as Rajinder Malhotra, native of Khajjiar.
The incident occurred late on Tuesday arrived at the resort and demanded food and alcohol but receptionist Sachin refused due to late hours and lack of staff. Upon refusing to meet their demands, two constables lost their anger and began beating the manager.
Soon after an altercation broke out, resort manager Rajinder Malhotra arrived at the spot and intervened but he was also attacked. Following the incident, angry locals took to the streets, blocking the Chamba Pathankot National Highway in protest.
The police quickly arrested two constables, Anoop and Amit, and filed a murder charge against them. Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police, Chamba, who reached the protest site to pacify the angry residents, said a departmental inquiry had also been initiated against the constables.
“We arrested the policemen and charged them with murder and other related offences. A special investigation team was also set up to probe the incident,” said Yadav.
