Himachal among states given Rs 1,816 cr additional central aid for disasters in 2022

New Delhi, March 13: The central government approved Rs 1,816.162 crore in additional central assistance for Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Meghalaya, and Nagaland in the event of natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts in 2022.

A high-level committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the decision, demonstrating the central government's resolve under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assist the people of the five affected states.


The National Disaster Response Fund will provide additional central assistance to these states.

Of the total central assistance of Rs 1,816.162 crore, Assam has received Rs 520.466 crore, Himachal Pradesh has received Rs 239.31 crore, Karnataka has received Rs 941.04 crore, Meghalaya has received Rs 47.326 crore, and Nagaland has received Rs 68.02 crore.

This additional assistance is in addition to the funds released by the Centre to the states in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), which are already available to the states, according to the statement.

During the fiscal year 2022-23, the central government allotted Rs 15,770.40 crore to 25 states through the SDRF and Rs 502.744 crore to four states through the NDRF.

The central government dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to these states immediately following the disasters, without waiting for the Memorandum from them.
