Soren's FIR was filed under Sections 3 (1) (p), (r), (s), and (u) of the SC/ST atrocity law, which carries a minimum jail term of six months and a maximum of five years upon conviction. HT reviewed a copy of the FIR.
These provisions cover false, malicious, or vexatious suits or criminal proceedings against Scheduled Tribe (ST) members (p), intentionally insulting or intimidating ST members with the intent to humiliate them in any public place (r), abusing any ST member by caste name in any public place (s), and attempting to incite hostility against ST members through words spoken or written or any visible representation (u).
Ranchi SP Chandan Sinha stated, "An FIR has been filed at the request of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. According to the SHO (Station House Officer of SC/T Police Station in Ranchi), the CM's complaint states that his image has been tarnished by ED officials who arrived at his Delhi residence without any information and spread false news."
"The Chief Minister has stated that after he arrived in Jharkhand, the media published stories about the cash haul and how a BMW car was seized, which he described as false information because they did not belong to him. However, I will be able to comment on this after reading the FIR," the SP added.
