Heavy rain expected in Delhi-NCR today, IMD issues 'orange' alert for next 4 days

PTC News Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "orange rain alert" due to the expected heavy rain that is expected to continue for the next four days in Delhi NCR on Sunday. There will be thunderstorms, strong gusts of between 30 and 40 kmph, and moderate to heavy rain throughout the area.

The regional meteorological center's most recent bulletin states that the national capital would likely be under a "orange alert" for heavy rain until July 3.

The sky was expected to be generally cloudy on July 1 and 2. heavy downpour or thunderstorm On July 1, the highest temperature is predicted to be 30 degrees Celsius; on July 2 and 3, it will decrease to 29 degrees Celsius. The weather service forecasted a usually cloudy sky, moderate to heavy rain, and thunderstorms for July 3–5.

Rain situation in Delhi NCR

On Saturday morning, there was rain in some parts of Delhi, including Burari and Rohini. The lowest temperature that was recorded in the city was 28 degrees Celsius.

Extreme weather events have been reported at the nation's capital by meteorologists. Over the course of the Monsoon season, Delhi usually receives 650 mm of precipitation. About one-third of the capital's Monsoon rainfall fell on Friday, the first day of significant rains this season.

According to news agency PTI, six rain-related deaths were reported on Saturday, bringing the total for the first two days since the arrival of the Monsoon to 11 deaths. Strong precautions are being taken, according to the authorities, to avoid waterlogging in the next days, when heavy rain is expected.

Delhi had its first day of the Monsoon with 228.1 mm of rain, the most for the month of June since 1936. The monsoon arrived in the city on Friday morning.

Numerous areas of the city, including the Pragati Maidan tunnel, experienced waterlogging as a result of Friday's heavy rainfall, and it remained closed on Saturday. Water was still being drained from the tunnel, but PWD officials said it should be back in service by late Saturday night.
