Heatwave update: Blistering heat continues in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh; Monsoon to arrive in 5 days

Sweltering heat will continue to grip parts of North India, with temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Delhi reaching high levels.

Heatwave update: Blistering heat continues in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh; Monsoon to arrive in 5 days

Heatwave update: Sweltering heat will continue to grip parts of North India, with temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Delhi reaching high levels. 

Additionally, hot and humid weather will prevail in parts of Gujarat state from today to May 31, as well as Bihar on May 28. Warm evening temperatures are expected in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.


These conditions will gradually subside after May 29, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Heatwaves are also expected in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, and the Jammu division during this time.

Temperatures in Punjab ranged from 44°C to 46°C, while Vidarbha, east Uttar Pradesh, and isolated pockets of Gujarat state, interior Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, and Telangana were between 40°C and 44°C. According to the IMD, temperatures were 4-6°C higher than normal in many regions.

Meanwhile, the IMD predicts that the monsoon will arrive in the coming days, bringing relief. According to the IMD's Tuesday weather bulletin, conditions will improve over the next five days, allowing the monsoon to begin in Kerala.
