Heat wave condition very soon over northwest India: IMD

New Delhi, February 20: Due to the climate change and global warming sweeping the globe, the maximum daytime temperature is on the rise across north India. The states like Punjab, Haryana and Shimla are already sizzling during the day, as the mercury level rising. The national capital is already witnessing temperature above normal for this season, a senior scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. 

The mercury level in Delhi and NCR region is likely to rise up to 33 degree Celsius in the coming days. IMD senior scientist Naresh Kumar said that Holi will be celebrated in a summer like condition. The temperature in north-west and central India will not change much. Currently no forecast of heat-wave reported yet.

The coastal areas will mostly experience 37 degree Celsius, whereas the plains will experience the heat wave at and temperature will remain at 40 degree Celsius. 

According to IMD, the situation s causing due to the western disturbance and will be affecting in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the coming two days. The western disturbance cause due to warm and moist winds from the Middle East reaches the north-western Indian subcontinent and changes the wind direction, leading to winter rain and drop in temperature.

"The temperature in Himachal Pradesh is 7-8 degree Celsius above normal for this time of the year. But it will fall after today. The temperature on the plains is higher because Western Disturbance didn't reach them," Kumar said.

In the coming days according to the IMD, the temperature is likely to rise above 38 degree Celsius in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. 

This year it is a major concerning issue as the summer will be early and has raised a major concern as it might affect the wheat crop.
