Hat-trick for Pushpak: ISRO successfully conducts final landing experiment of Reusable Launch Vehicle

PTC Web Desk: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully carried out the third and final Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) Landing Experiment (LEX) on Sunday. The mission, RLV LEX-03, took place at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Chitradurga, Karnataka.

The RLV LEX-03 take-off tested the RLV's autonomous landing capability under more difficult release conditions and high wind conditions. Pushpak, the winged vehicle, was released from an Indian Air Force Chinook chopper at an altitude of 4.5 km.

Pushpak performed autonomous cross-range correction manoeuvres from a release position 4.5 kilometres from the runway, approached the runway, and landed precisely at the runway centerline.

This mission simulated the approach and landing interface, as well as high-speed landing conditions for a vehicle returning from orbit, demonstrating ISRO's experience in collecting the most crucial technologies needed to create a Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV).

The enhanced guiding algorithm for longitudinal and lateral plane error corrections, which is critical for the upcoming Orbital Re-entry Mission, has been validated, according to an ISRO statement.
