Haryana school bus accident: 4-member panel formed to probe case

Haryana school bus accident: In the aftermath of the tragic school bus accident in Haryana's Mahendragarh, where six students killed and approximately 20 others injuried, a four-member government-appointed panel has been formed to probe the school bus crash. 

The crash occurred near Unhani village in Kanina, as the bus, carrying nearly 40 students ranging from primary to secondary classes to the GL Public School, collided with a tree and subsequently overturned, as confirmed by local law enforcement authorities. Meanwhile, an FIR has been also lodged in connection with the accident.

In response to the dreadful incident, the Haryana Education Department has called for a meeting regarding vehicle safety policies which is scheduled for 3 pm today. The meeting to witness the participation of key stakeholders from across the state, including all District Education Officers, Elementary Education Officers, and Block Education Officers. Utilizing video conferencing technology, these officials will convene from various regions of the state to collectively address and formulate measures to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. 


Meanwhile, on Thursday evening the principal of the school whose bus toppled in Haryana's Mahendragarh, killing six students, has been arrested along with two others

The driver, who was allegedly drunk and leapt out of the bus just before it collided with a tree, has also been arrested along with the secretary of the trust that oversees the school. 

The bus belonged to the school, and documents showed that its fitness certificate had expired six years prior, in 2018. A state transport official has been suspended.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah among several other prominent leaders expressed their profound condolences in the wake of this tragic event. They have emphasised the imperative need for immediate action to avert similar devastating accidents in the future.

The incident sparked significant concerns regarding the safety protocols governing school transportation.
