Haryana portfolios assigned: CM Saini retains home and finance departments

PTC News Desk: On Sunday evening, the Haryana Governor officially allocated portfolios to the newly formed council of ministers under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. This decision came just three days after the new government was sworn in, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

According to a notification released by the Cabinet Secretariat, Chief Minister Saini retained several key portfolios, including home and finance. He will oversee a total of 12 departments, which also include planning, excise and taxation, town and country planning, urban estates, information, public relations, language and culture, criminal investigation, law and legislative affairs, and housing for all.

Anil Vij, who previously held the home portfolio during former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's administration, has been assigned the portfolios of energy and transport. In addition, he has now taken charge of the labor department, further expanding his responsibilities.

The health department, previously managed by Vij, has been entrusted to Arti Singh Rao, who will also oversee the medical education and research and Ayush departments, as indicated in the government order issued late Sunday night.

Saini, 54, took his oath as the chief minister of Haryana at a grand ceremony in Panchkula on Thursday. The event was attended by numerous NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and drew thousands of supporters from across the state. Alongside Saini, 13 MLAs, including two women, also took their oaths.

In addition to Saini and Vij, the allocation of portfolios includes:

  • Rao Narbir Singh: Industries and Commerce, Environment, Forests, and Wildlife
  • Mahipal Dhanda: School Education
  • Vipul Goel: Revenue and Disaster Management, Urban Local Bodies, and Civil Aviation
  • Arvind Sharma: Jails and Cooperation
  • Shyam Singh Rana: Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
  • Ranbir Gangwa: Public Health Engineering
  • Krishan Kumar Bedi: Social Justice, Empowerment, and Welfare for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Backward Classes (BCs)
  • Shruti Choudhry: Women and Child Development

Additionally, Krishan Lal Panwar has been allocated the Development and Panchayats, and Mines and Geology departments.

Rajesh Nagar, Minister of State (Independent Charge), will handle Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, while Gaurav Gautam, also Minister of State (Independent Charge), will oversee Youth Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Sports departments.

The allocation of these portfolios was executed by the Governor of Haryana based on the recommendations of the Chief Minister, solidifying the new government's structure. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a significant victory in the October 5 Haryana Assembly elections, securing 48 out of 90 seats, enabling this newly constituted council of ministers to take charge.
