Haryana govt mulls defamation case against Kejriwal over 'poisonous Yamuna' remark; EC seeks factual report
PTC News Desk: The Haryana government is likely to file a defamation case against AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal over his claims that BJP-ruled state has mixed poisonous substance into Yamuna river ahead of Delhi assembly elections.
“The Delhi Jal Board officials suspected that something was wrong with the water coming from Haryana. When we tested it, we found that they had mixed poison. You want to kill the people of Delhi. Why did they do it? They thought that if a few people die in Delhi, all the blame would fall on me, to defame me and gain votes. Do you want to kill the people of Delhi?” Kejriwal alleged.
BJP also mulls over approaching Election Commission to lodge a complaint against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The saffron party's decision stems from Arvind Kejriwal's address during an election rally wherein he accused Haryana government of deliberately polluting the yamuna river which flows from Haryana to Delhi and other states, and disrupting water supply ahead of Delhi elections.
The BJP was quick to condemn Kejriwal’s claims. Chief Minister Saini retorted that Kejriwal had lost his conscience and said he should apologise to the people.
“The people of Haryana consider the Yamuna a holy river and worship it. Why would the people of Haryana mix poison into the river water? Arvind Kejriwal made a false promise in 2020 that if the Yamuna wasn’t saved from pollution, he would never ask for votes. Seeing the possible defeat in the elections, Kejriwal has lost his mental balance. Kejriwal should immediately apologise to the people of Haryana and Delhi, or else we will file a defamation case against him,” Saini said.
Meanwhile Election Commission has directed Haryana government to submit a factual report on January 28 over allegations of increased ammonia level in Yamuna.
