Gujarat: Trainee pilot killed as aircraft crashes in residential area of Ameli district
PTC News Desk: A trainee pilot was killed after a trainee aircraft belonging to a private aviation academy crashed in a residential area in Gujarat's Amreli district on Tuesday and caught fire.
The crash was followed by a loud explosion triggering panic in the neighbourhood area. The pilot was flying solo.
Fire and police teams rushed to the site and began rescue operations. The area was cordoned off taking into account the safety of residents.
"A training aircraft of Vision Flying Institute, Amreli, crashed in the Shastri Nagar area today. The aircraft was being flown by Aniket Mahajan, who died in the crash," Deputy SP Chirag Desai said.
The SP said local police have started the process to lodge a case of accidental death and investigation to find out the exact cause of the crash.
This is the second such incident that met with an accident involving trainee aircraft in Gujarat. In March, another training aircraft from a flying school crashed on the outskirts of a village in Mehsana district.
