Gujarat: Flood-like situation across state as heavy rains lead to waterlogging; vehicles submerged
New Delhi, July 19: Gujarat faced heavy rainfall on Tuesday, resulting in widespread flooding in several areas. Rajkot, Surat, and Gir Somnath districts experienced torrential downpours, with the state receiving 300 mm of rainfall in recent hours. As a consequence, 70 people were evacuated from the affected regions.
Social media platforms were flooded with visuals showing the grim situation in many areas, with streets submerged, cars underwater, and shops forced to close due to the severe flooding.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued predictions of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain districts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat in the upcoming days.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Sutrapada taluka in Gir Somnath district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, receiving 345 mm in just 14 hours since 6 am on Tuesday. Similarly, Dhoraji taluka in Rajkot district experienced 250 mm of rainfall in a mere 14 hours, with 145 mm recorded within two hours.
Surat also faced heavy rains, registering approximately 104 mm of rainfall throughout the day. Parts of Junagadh district were affected by torrential downpours as well.
Due to the substantial inflow of water, 43 out of Gujarat's 206 reservoirs have been put on high alert, while 18 are on alert mode, and warnings have been issued for another 19, according to a statement by the state government.
In response to the current rainfall situation, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) have been placed on high alert to address any potential emergencies.
