Grief turns tragic: Son dies of heart attack while lighting mother’s funeral pyre in Gurugram
PTC Web Desk: In a heartbreaking incident from Gurugram, Haryana, tragedy struck a family twice in a single day. A 69-year-old retired Haryana Roadways employee, Satish, passed away due to a heart attack while performing the last rites of his 92-year-old mother, Dharma Devi, at the cremation ground.
The incident was reported on January 2 in Pathan Wada locality, where Dharma Devi, the family’s eldest member, had passed away earlier that day. Family, friends, and neighbours gathered at Swarg Ashram on Damdama Road to bid their final farewell. Satish, deeply anguished by his mother’s demise, was called upon to perform the ceremonial act of lighting the funeral pyre.
As Satish stepped forward for the ritual, he broke down, overwhelmed with grief. Tears streamed down his face as he struggled to come to terms with the loss of his beloved mother. Suddenly, clutching his chest, he sank to the ground.
Initially, onlookers thought Satish had fainted due to emotional distress. However, he gasped out that he was experiencing severe chest pain. The family, alarmed, rushed him to a nearby hospital, leaving others to proceed with Dharma Devi’s funeral.
Doctors at the hospital said Satish had suffered a massive heart attack and could not be revived. The double tragedy left the family in shock and despair. "He was already very disturbed by his mother’s death. His heart simply couldn’t take it," shared a grieving relative.
