Social media has become quite active and most population had access to Internet. Now, even small news of a village reaches the national platform through digital media. Union minister Anurag Thakur said the Central Government had left most of print, electronic and digital media to self-regulation. However, it was now imperative to strike a fine balance as digital media presents opportunities as well as challenges.

"I would say that changes have to be brought in law, we will bring that to make your work simple and easy. We are working to introduce a bill," Anurag Thakur said during an event organised by Hindi news daily.’.

Anurag Thakur said the process for the registration of newspapers would be simplified. The Centre would soon bring a new law to replace the 1867 Press and Registration of Books Act. Under the new law, it would be possible to complete the registration process, which now took about four months, in a week through online mode, added Anurag Thakur.
