Gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari dies in hospital; section 144 imposed

Mukhtar Ansari death: Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died in hospital after suffering a heart attack on Thursday. He was 60. Ansari was admitted to Banda Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated earlier in the day.

Ansari's health condition deteriorated after he broke his 'Roza', reported India Today TV, citing sources.

A statement from the district hospital confirmed the death. "Convicted/under trial prisoner Mukhtar Ansari, son of Subhanallah, age 63, was admitted to the emergency ward of Rani Durgawati Medical College, Banda at 8.25 pm by the prison officials after the complaint of vomiting and unconsciousness. The patient was administered treatment by a team of nine doctors. However, despite efforts, the patient died due to cardiac arrest," the hospital said in the statement.

Last week, Mukhtar's lawyer Randheer Singh Suman filed an application in Barabanki court and sought a proper medical examination, alleging that 'slow poisoning' was being administered to him by Banda prison staff.

Ansari has been convicted in eight cases within a mere 18-month span.

Section 144 imposed in parts of UP

The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed Section 144 in Mau, Ghazipur, and security has been increased in several areas, including Ghaziour, Balia, and Pryagraj, where the gangster wielded significant power.
