Former Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh faces charges in sexual harassment case
PTC Web Desk: Former Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh's troubles have deepened as charges have been framed against him in the sexual harassment case involving a junior female coach. The charges against Sandeep Singh have been framed under Sections 354, 354A, 354B, 506, and 509 of the IPC. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 17.
During the hearing on Monday, the court rejected Sandeep Singh's plea for dropping the charges and the victim's plea to add a section for attempted rape. Charges have been formally framed in the Chandigarh District Court, and the case will proceed against Sandeep Singh. Witness statements will be recorded in the upcoming hearing.
The allegations stem from December 26, 2022, when the junior female coach filed a complaint with the Chandigarh Police, accusing Sandeep Singh of sexual harassment and other charges. Following an investigation, a case was registered against Singh on December 31 under IPC Sections 342, 354, 354A, 354B, and 506. A special investigation team (SIT) was formed under the supervision of DSP (East) Palak Goel, comprising Inspector Ranjit Singh from the Cyber Police Station, Inspector Usha from the Women's Police Station, and a female SI. Subsequently, IPC Section 509 was also added to the charges against Singh.
The legal process took over a year and a half to reach this stage, and now the case against Sandeep Singh will proceed in court.
