Fatehabad court sentences man to death for brutally killing disabled brother over property dispute

PTC Web Desk: The District and Sessions Court of Fatehabad has awarded death sentence to one Ashok, who murdered his disabled brother Deepak over a proper dispute .

The incident dates back to June 18, 2020, when Ashok brutally killed his 40-year-old brother over a property dispute. Ashok slit his brother’s throat, decapitating him, and placing the severed head in a bag before fleeing. The police, during their investigation, recovered Deepak’s severed head and other critical evidence, leading to Ashok’s arrest two days after the crime.

According to the victim's sister, Sushma Devi, the dispute arose after their mother bequeathed a house near Gogamedi, Tohana, to the disabled Deepak nearly a decade ago. This decision enraged Ashok, who killed his brother. Deepak was living in the house at the time of his murder.

The presiding judge classified the case as the "rarest of rare" and pronounced the death penalty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Ashok was also sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 each under Sections 457, 506, and 201 of the IPC. Additionally, a fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed with the death sentence.

During police interrogation, Ashok confessed to murdering Deepak and spending the entire night next to the body. He also admitted to stealing Deepak’s gold bracelet, Rs 60,000 in cash, and two mobile phones. Initially, Ashok hung the severed head in a plastic bag on a hook before leaving the scene around 5 am.
