Farmers' protest march: 40 checkposts, 11 paramilitary companies deployed in Sirsa as preemptive measures

Farmers' protest march: As thousands of farmers prepare to march to the national capital on February 13 for the 'Delhi Chalo' protest, Haryana police have taken precautions, strategically placing several checkpoints, deploying 11 paramilitary companies, and imposing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Sirsa.

Briefing on the security measures, Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta stated, "In Sirsa, 40 checkpoints have been strategically set up, particularly on routes coming in from our neighbouring states. 11 paramilitary companies, as well as local police, have been deployed. Section 144 has been imposed in Sirsa."

"Ambulances and firefighters have been stationed in various locations to efficiently address any situation... The road from Bathinda has been temporarily sealed, and by tomorrow, the 8-10 most important checkpoints will be sealed."

"Traffic has been diverted on many stretches of NH-9 to provide alternate routes for ordinary people... The internet had been shut down in many districts for three days to maintain law and order," he added.

Haryana shares a border with Rajasthan and Punjab, which could be potential entry points for farmers driving tractors and other vehicles, and the administration has made adequate security arrangements. Two temporary jails have been established.

Vijayendra Kumar, the State Principal Secretary, stated that "Haryana borders Rajasthan and Punjab. Proper arrangements have been made at both border crossings to Punjab. An adequate force has been deployed."

"Strong arrangements have been made this time, keeping in mind the previous events. We are in touch with the DCs and SPs of Rajasthan and Punjab's bordering areas, and everything is well-coordinated... Two temporary jails have been established... Alternative ambulance routes have been opened. 11 additional companies have been deployed," he added.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed in the national capital for 30 days, until March 12.

Over 5,000 security personnel have been stationed along the border with other states. Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri borders.
