Farmers' protest: Major traffic chaos as commuters covering 1 km in 1 hour!

PTC Web Desk: Delhi and its adjoining satellite towns are grappling with severe traffic jam as key border points witness significant disruptions due to a massive farmers' march towards the national capital.

The Ghazipur and Chilla borders, linking Delhi with Ghaziabad and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, are experiencing long queues of vehicles. Commuters are facing substantial delays, with one person reporting a mere one-km progress in over an hour on the DND flyover. The traffic slowdown extends to NH-48, connecting Delhi with Gurugram, where vehicles are subjected to thorough checks before entering the national capital.

The heightened security measures are a response to the fortified border points at Ghazipur, Singhu, and Tikri, aimed at preventing the entry of protesting farmers into Delhi. Concrete blocks, layers of barricades, barbed wires, and nails have been strategically placed on highways to impede the movement of tractors and trollies across these border points. The authorities have taken additional measures, such as barring the entry of goods vehicles via the Greater Noida Expressway and restricting travel between Sirsa in Haryana and Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh via Parichowk.

Despite talks between the farmers and a government delegation last evening, a consensus on three key demands, including a law ensuring the minimum support price (MSP), remains elusive. The farmers' march underscores the ongoing tensions between the agricultural community and the government.

In response to the chaotic situation, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued guidelines, advising commuters from specific border areas on alternative routes. Goods vehicles are strictly prohibited from entering Delhi via the Greater Noida Expressway. Commuters from the DND border are recommended to take the elevated road via Sector 18 from Film City, while those approaching from the Chilla side can use the Sector 14A Flyover, Roundabout Chowk, Sector 15 via Sandeep Paper Mill Chowk, Jhundapura Chowk. To facilitate smoother travel from the Kalindi Kunj Border to Delhi, commurters are encouraged to take the Mahamaya Flyover.

For those using the Yamuna Expressway, the suggestion is to exit from Jewar Toll towards Khurja and take the Jahangirpur route. The situation reflects the complexities surrounding the farmers' demands and the government's response, contributing to a tense atmosphere at these crucial border points. As the stalemate persists, commuters are urged to remain updated on traffic advisories and use alternative routes to mitigate the impact of the ongoing protests on their daily lives.
