'Failed to anticipate': Government admits to security lapses in Pahalgam at all-party meet

PTC News Desk: The central government on Thursday admitted to a security lapse in Pahalgam at an all-party meeting. The government had convened an all-party meeting to brief the opposition on the pahalgam attack that killed 26 people and discuss further situation.

During the meeting, several opposition parties asked questions about the apparent failure of security protocols. "Where were the security forces? Where was the Central Reserve Police Force?" several leaders asked.

Several top leaders including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, home minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar were also in attendance.

The government responded citing that they were not informed by local authorities about opening the Baisaran area near Pahalgam in Anantnag district, which traditionally remains restricted until the Amarnath Yatra in June.

Parliamentary Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said, "India has taken strong action against terrorism in the past and will continue to do so. This has been discussed in all-party meeting on behalf of govt. All parties said that they are with govt in this fight against terrorism. The meeting ended on a positive note."
