‘Enough of It’: Jagdeep Dhankhar and Jaya Bachchan clash in heated Rajya Sabha face-off
PTC News Desk: Jaya Bachchan, an actor and politician, and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar squared off once more on Friday after the Vice President called her 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' when she accepted an invitation to participate in a Rajya Sabha debate. Opposition MPs protested after Bachchan, who was clearly agitated, accused Dhankhar of speaking to her in a 'unacceptable tone' before they left the Upper House.
Samajwadi Party MP Bachchan protested to Dhankhar's "unacceptable" tone against her during a Friday speech in the Upper House and demanded an apology from him.
"My profession is art. I can read expressions and body language. However, your tone is incorrect. Although we work together, your tone is inappropriate," Bachchan remarked. In response, Dhankhar reminded Bachchan that manners matter, especially in the case of a famous person. However, he became agitated when members of the opposition began to demonstrate against the chairman and sided with the actor-politician.
"You've built a solid reputation, Jaya ji. You are aware that an actor answers to the director. But I don't want to be the same person every day. I don't want to go to school every day. Are you referring to my tone? I'm done with it. You might be anyone. You must comprehend the etiquette. Dhankhar responded angrily to Bachchan, saying, "You can be a celebrity but accept decorum."
To no purpose, the Rajya Sabha Chairman urged the opposition MPs to cease their protests and take their seats. "I have to be in action and take care of the situation," he stated.
Dhankhar attacked Bachchan, saying, "Never carry an impression that only you build reputations," and charged the Opposition with trying to bring about the country's instability. There's not much grace. Dhankhar remarked, "You are walking away from your duty," just before Jaya Bachchan and other opposition MPs left the Rajya Sabha.
A vote of censure was moved against Jaya Bachchan by Union Minister JP Nadda, who is also the Leader of the House of Rajya Sabha, due to her words that were directed towards Dhankhar.

In the last ten days, Dhankhar and Bachchan have engaged in three such confrontations around the former's moniker, "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan."
On July 29, Bachchan stated that every woman has her own identity and objected to having her husband Amitabh Bachchan's name as her middle name.
Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh called her to address the house, saying, "Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji, please." "Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata (It would've been enough to call me Jaya Bachchan)," the actor retorted. Harivansh brought up the fact that her name was listed in records with such spelling.
On August 5, Bachchan once more voiced her disapproval of Amitabh being used as her middle name. Dhankhar informed her about the procedure for changing one's name in the Election Commission's official records.
"There is a process to change your name that appears on the election certificate and that is submitted here (Rajya Sabha)," Dhankhar stated.
