PTC News Desk: Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde resigned as the chief minister of Maharashtra amid Mahayuti alliance's frontrunner for the position. Shinde tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. His deputies, Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis, were also present.

Shinde has been appointed the caretaker Chief Minister until the state’s government is formed. The term of the Maharashtra assembly ends on November 26.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde are reportedly the frontrunners for the top political position. While BJP and NCP have backed Devendra Fadnavis for the chief minister of the state, Shiv Sena has asserted that Shinde should retain power as he is the trailblazer of the 'Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana' which apparently proved to be a significant breakthrough in the Maharashtra assembly elections.

In a post on X, Shinde asked his supporters not to throng his official residence to pitch for his continuation as the chief minister. "Out of love for me, some people have appealed to everyone to gather together and come to Mumbai. I am deeply grateful for your love. But I appeal that no one should come together in my support in such a manner," Shinde said.
