Eknath Shinde joke row: Kunal Kamra calls FIR malicious, challenges legality in HC
PTC News Desk: Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has challenged the FIR filed against him in Bombay High Court in connection with the 'traitor' jibe directed at Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during his stand-up show 'Naya Bharat.'
Kamra while seeking cancellation, called the FIR malicious and challenged its 'legality, correctness and propriety'. The FIR was lodged against Kamra at the Khar Police Station on March 24 based on a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
Kamra's latest move comes after he was served a third summons by the Mumbai Police on April 2 when he was called for questioning on April 5. He further skipped the third summon and requested Mumbai police to record his statements via video conferencing. However, the police rejected his plea despite citing 'threat to his life' in his plea.
The FIR was lodged against Kamra by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel on March 24 for offences punishable under sections 353(1)(b) and 353(2) (statements causing public mischief), along with 356(2) (defamation) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
