India-China ties: EAM Jaishankar holds talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, first meeting since border agreement
Following thaw in India-China diplomatic ties, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil capital city Rio de Janeiro. This is the first meeting between both the leaders since India and China signed the border disengagement deal in October.
EAM Jaishankar shared the details of the meeting on his social media platform X and noted the progress in the recent disengagement in Ladakh and exchanged views on the next steps in bilateral ties.
"On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio, met CPC Politburo member and FM Wang Yi of China," Jaishankar said in his X post. He said that the two leaders "noted the progress in the recent disengagement in the India-China border areas," Jaishankar said in a post.
Jaishankar also said that India and China exchanged views on the next steps in the bilateral ties between the two countries and had a discussion on the global situation.
He also noted that India-China's contribution to the G20 and Brics platforms highlighted the significance of the countries in international politics and underscored the importance of bilateral relations.
In a significant breakthrough, India on October 21 announced reaching a border agreement with China to cease the long standing border dispute. Beijing also confirmed the agreement the following day, stated that a resolution had been reached on "relevant matters" and that it would work alongside New Delhi to implement the terms of the agreement.
