Driver with bullet in arm rescues 35 passengers in 30 Km drive amid car chase in Maharashtra

PTC News Desk: On Sunday, a minibus driver, Khomdev Kawade, displayed remarkable courage, saving the lives of nearly 35 passengers amidst a daring car chase by dacoits near Shegaon on the Amravati-Nagpur highway in Maharashtra. The passengers, en route from Shegaon to Nagpur, found themselves pursued by a gang in a car.

As the car-borne gang attempted to overtake the minibus, Kawade, the driver, initially allowed them to pass. However, when bullets started raining down on their vehicle, Kawade swiftly reacted, despite sustaining a bullet wound to his arm. He managed to maintain control of the minibus, driving 30 kilometers while bleeding profusely. With nerves of steel, he maneuvered past the assailants at Sawadi village, located 100 kilometers from Nagpur, and guided the passengers to safety at the Teosa police station.

Reports indicate that most of the bullets narrowly missed the bus driver, with one striking his hand. Despite his injury, Kawade remained composed and focused, ensuring the safety of all onboard.

"The heroic driver ensured all pilgrims were safe," remarked a police officer. Following the incident, Amravati police accompanied the bus back to the Nandgaonpeth police station, and Kawade received immediate medical attention at a nearby primary health center.

Authorities retrieved CCTV footage from entry and exit points near Nagpur to gather more information about the gang members. The video revealed the trajectory of the vehicle, initially heading towards the city before veering off towards the Kamptee-Kanhan route from Gondkheri toll naka towards the Jabalpur highway.

The gang had stolen a vehicle bearing a UP registration number, prompting the filing of an FIR for the theft, according to police sources.
