Dera Jagmalwali chief’s death: Haryana suspends internet in Sirsa till August 8

Following the death of religious leader Bahadur Chand Vakil, the Haryana government has suspended internet services in Sirsa district until Thursday midnight, August 8.

Dera Jagmalwali chief’s death: Haryana suspends internet in Sirsa till August 8

Dera Jagmalwali chief’s death: Following the death of religious leader Bahadur Chand Vakil, the Haryana government has suspended internet services in Sirsa district until Thursday midnight, August 8.  

"...There is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage of public & private property and disturbance of public peace & tranquility in the district Sirsa. And whereas, there is a clear potential of disruption of public utilities, damage to public assets and amenities and disturbance of public law and order in district Sirsa on account of misuse of internet services by way of spread of inflammatory material and false rumours...," reads the order by Haryana Government.


Vakil was the leader of Dera Jagmalwali in Sirsa. His followers have accused foul play in his death, even as a new faction seeks to assume leadership of the Dera. Vakil was cremated on Friday.

According to the home department, the decision to suspend internet service was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi in response to rising tensions in Sirsa following his death.
