Delhi's Govindpuri rocked by sexual assault case; paramilitary forces deployed amid protests

PTC News Desk: In southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area, a five-year-old boy has been the victim of a disturbing sexual assault allegedly perpetrated by his neighbour, Balram Das, also known as Kalu. The incident, which occurred on September 1, has sparked significant local unrest and widespread protests.

According to reports, the assault came to light when the boy disclosed to his parents that he had been sexually abused by Das. The police promptly registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and arrested the accused on Tuesday night. The arrest led to immediate outrage in the community.

As Das was being transported to the police station, a large crowd of locals gathered, attempting to assault both the accused and the police officers. Despite the tensions, the police successfully transported Das to the station.

Later, a massive protest ensued outside the Govindpuri police station, with demonstrators staging a sit-in and blocking a major road. The blockage severely disrupted traffic and continued despite assurances from senior officers of stringent action against the accused. The protesters chanted slogans and refused to disperse, demanding justice for the victim.

In response to the escalating situation, heavy police forces and paramilitary units were deployed to the area on Wednesday to manage the protests and restore order.

Police investigations revealed that on Sunday, Das allegedly lured the boy to his residence, drugged him, and sexually assaulted him. The boy was subsequently found by his family a few hours later and taken to the police station.

The child was immediately sent for a medical examination at AIIMS and later placed in a care home in Lajpat Nagar for his safety and well-being. On Tuesday, the boy's statement was recorded before a magistrate, during which he described how the accused had inappropriately touched him, according to PTI. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with authorities working to ensure justice for the young victim.
