PTC News Desk: Continuing the pattern of warmer-than-usual months, November this year was the warmest in the previous five years, with the highest day and night temperatures.

This is the most delayed drop below 10 degrees Celsius since December 1, 2019, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The average minimum temperature in November has been 14.9 degrees Celsius, about 2 degrees higher than the long-period average (LPA) of 13 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, the average maximum temperature was 29.5 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above the LPA, making this the warmest November since 2019.

The sharp drop in temperature began on November 25 at 14 degrees Celsius. The temperature dropped to 11.9 degrees Celsius on November 26, 10.4 degrees Celsius on November 27, and 10.1 degrees Celsius on November 28, before falling below 10 degrees Celsius on Friday for the first time this season.

Speaking about the weather, IMD stated that while the current cold spell is expected for late November, the season has been marked by overall warmer-than-usual temperatures due to a lack of major rain and snowfall.

A western disturbance affecting northwest India is anticipated to cause a brief rise in nighttime temperatures of 1-2 degrees Celsius over the weekend, with another dip likely early next week as snowfall arrives in the northern mountains.

Meanwhile, October was also warmer than typical, with the city experiencing its warmest October since 1951, with both days and nights about 2 degrees Celsius higher than average.

According to the data, the average monthly maximum and minimum temperatures in October were 35.1 degrees Celsius and 21.2 degrees Celsius, the highest since 36.2 degrees Celsius and 22.3 degrees Celsius, respectively, in 1951.

Furthermore, on Friday, the mercury fell below 10 degrees Celsius for the first time this winter season, with Safdarjung, which is representative of Delhi's weather, recording a minimum temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius, a notch lower than average.

The meteorological authority predicts shallow fog on Saturday, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be approximately 26 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius.
