Delhi vegetable market vendors directed to display names, numbers on carts
PTC News Desk: Street vendors in Delhi's Najafgarh market have been directed to display their names on their carts. The move has been justified by the local councilor and market association on the pretext of the safety and to prevent illegal Bangladeshi and rohingyas to sell their products.
The vendors have also been ordered to display their contacts along with their names followed by unique identification or thela number that will be issued to the vendors.
The decision comes after a meeting of market association with the local councilor after receiving several complaints of unidentified sellers who are suspected to be illegal migrants from Bangladesh or Myanmar.
Local BJP councillor Amit Kharkhari said the move was not meant to discriminate against anyone or any particular community but for security.
"This is not being done to discriminate against anyone or any particular community. This is just for security. We have received several complaints about unauthorised persons operating in the market. Keeping this in mind, the decision was made and is being implemented," he said.
Those who will not comply with the orders will not be allowed to sell their products in the market. The verification plans are expected to be completed by November 20. This record will be maintained by the market association and submitted to the local police as well as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for security purposes.
