Delhi cop dragged to death after asking speeding car to slow down in road rage incident

PTC News Desk: In a tragic incident of road rage in Delhi, a 30-year-old police constable, Sandeep, died after suffering severe head injuries when he was dragged by a speeding car in the city’s Nangloi area late last night. Sandeep, who was off-duty and in civilian clothes, was on his motorcycle conducting a patrol when the incident occurred.

The altercation began when a WagonR car, driving erratically, attempted to overtake Sandeep’s bike. Concerned about the reckless driving, Sandeep gestured to the driver to slow down. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, hitting Sandeep's motorcycle from behind.

The impact caused Sandeep and his bike to be dragged for approximately 10 meters before he collided with another vehicle. Severely injured, Sandeep was rushed to a nearby hospital and later transferred to another facility, where he was pronounced dead.

The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera in the area, which shows Sandeep attempting to signal the driver before being struck by the car.

Police reports indicate that there were two people in the car, both of whom fled the scene on foot after abandoning the vehicle. The car has been seized, and authorities are actively searching for the suspects. A murder case has been registered, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the individuals involved.

Sandeep is survived by his mother, wife, and five-year-old son, leaving his family devastated by the sudden loss. While some reports suggest that one of the car's occupants may have been involved in the illegal liquor trade, the police have not yet confirmed this.

Commenting on the case, senior police officer Jimmy Chiram stated that Sandeep was on routine patrol when the incident occurred. He mentioned that there was likely a verbal exchange between Sandeep and the car’s driver before the collision. "It seems to be a case of road rage. Sandeep was hit from behind, dragged for about 10 meters, and sustained fatal head injuries," Chiram said. When asked if the suspects had been identified, he responded that investigations were ongoing and further details would be shared once available.

This incident adds to the growing list of road rage cases in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). Instances of violent confrontations over traffic disputes have led to numerous injuries and fatalities. Just last month, a 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver in Faridabad was fatally assaulted after his vehicle brushed against a car. In another incident in July, a road rage episode escalated when a man opened fire on a couple and their two children, killing a 30-year-old woman.

The rise in such incidents has sparked concerns over safety on the roads, and authorities are under pressure to address the alarming frequency of road rage-related violence in the region.
