Delhi LG VK Saxena approves relaxation in recruitment criteria for employment to 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims

Anti-Sikh riots victims have been granted full relaxation in educational qualification and extended upper age limit for all the 88 applicants. This relaxation has been approved for their appointment in Government Service to the post of MTS.

Delhi LG VK Saxena approves relaxation in recruitment criteria for employment to 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims

PTC News Desk: Delhi LG VK Saxena has approved full relaxation in education and age criteria up to 55 years for 88 victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots who have applied for jobs under Delhi government. 


Anti-Sikh riots victims have been granted full relaxation in educational qualification and extended upper age limit for all the 88 applicants. This relaxation has been approved for their appointment in Government Service to the post of MTS. 

Repeated representations had been made by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, public representatives and groups of victims, who had met LG recently, in this regard.

A Rehabilitation Package, including provision of jobs was sanctioned by Union government in January 2006 for victims of 1984 anti-sikh riots. The Revenue Department in a subsequent special drive got 72 applications out of which appointment was given to 22 applicants by obtaining age relaxation from then LG.   

In Oct 2024, Saxena granted full relaxation in required educational qualification to the post of MTS for left out 50 applicants out of total 72 received during special drive. Revenue Department was also directed to process the cases for granting employment to one of the children of the applicants wherein applicants have surpassed the age of employment.

After the directions, special camps were organised by the Revenue department last year in November and invited applications for employment to family members of 1984 anti-sikh riots victims. 

According to the officals, a total of199 applications, were received, of which 89 candidates were found eligible, but all these were above the age limit and a few also missed out on the required educational qualification. However, the last relaxation would pave way 88 applicants for their appointment as MTS in Government Service.
