Delhi jewellery theft: Delhi Police arrest three suspects from Chhattisgarh in Rs 25 crore heist at Umrao Jewellers

New Delhi, September 29:  In a significant breakthrough in the high-profile Rs 25-crore jewellery theft at Umrao Jewellers in Delhi, the police have apprehended three suspects from Chhattisgarh. They have been identified as Lokesh Srivastava, Shiva Chandravanshi, and an unnamed person.

A substantial amount of stolen gold has been recovered from their possession. The authorities have revealed that this criminal gang had previously carried out similar heists in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. A Delhi Police team is currently working on the case in Chhattisgarh.

The accused are believed to have broken into a jewellery store located in the Jangpura area of south Delhi, making off with ornaments valued between Rs 20 crore and Rs 25 crore. The daring robbery took place at Umrao Jewellers in the Bhogal vicinity between Sunday evening and Thursday morning.

The thieves executed a sophisticated plan, gaining entry to the terrace of a four-story building adjacent to the store. From there, they made their way to the ground floor where the store's secure vault was situated. They systematically disabled the CCTV cameras and created a breach in the wall to access the safe. In addition to the jewellery stored in the vault, they also made off with valuable items on display in the showroom.
