Delhi: IndiGo flight suffers tail strike during landing
New Delhi, June 13: An IndiGo aircraft was grounded after it suffered a tail strike during its landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, officials informed.
The incident took place on Sunday and no injuries were reported. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) informed that IndiGo A321-252NX (Neo) aircraft VT-IMG while operating flight 6E-6183, sector Kolkata - Delhi was involved in a tail strike while landing at Delhi.
The crew thought they floated longer than usual on the approach to runway 27 and initiated a go-around.
According to the DGCA, the bottom of the aircraft's tail likely touched the runway surface and sustained damage during the go-around manoeuvre.
The operating crew has been off-rostered pending investigation.
According to a senior DGCA official, an investigation has been launched and the aircraft has been grounded.
A tail strike happens when an aircraft's tail or empennage collides with the ground or another immovable object during takeoff or landing.
