Delhi air pollution: Delhi government to provide subsistence allowance of Rs 8,000 to construction workers hit by anti-pollution curbs
PTC News Desk: Delhi government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 8,000 to each registered construction workers affected by anti-pollution measures. Around 90,759 registered workers will be the beneficiaries for the allowance.
The decision of providing subsistence allowance comes after Supreme Court's directive to Delhi government to provide allowance to construction workers impacted by the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) provisions.
According to the directives, only the workers registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers (BoCW) Act, 1996, with active memberships as of November 25, 2024 (as per the Supreme Court’s order) will be eligible for the allowance.
Additionaly, physical verification is also mandatory to coroborate with workers' claims of completion of construction work for required number of days. After verification, allowances will be directly transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The construction bas was part of Graded response action plan which came into effect from November 18.
