PTC News Desk: A committee to investigate the deaths of three civil services candidates at a coaching center in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, last week as a result of floods was established by the Union Home Ministry on Monday.

The committee has been charged by the ministry with investigating the Rau's IAS Study Circle incident, determining who is responsible, proposing corrective actions, and making policy changes to prevent similar situations in the future.

"The MHA has formed a committee to investigate the regrettable event that occurred at a tutoring center in New Delhi's old Rajinder Nagar. The committee will look into the causes, assign blame, offer actions, and recommend revisions to policy," the Ministry of Home Affairs stated in a post on X.

The committee has been given 30 days to present its findings. Its members will be the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi government, Special CP, Delhi Police, Fire Advisor, and Joint Secretary.

On Saturday night, flooding in the basement of a building that houses Rau's IAS Study Circle coaching institute claimed the lives of three IAS candidates. The victims, Tanya Soni from Telangana, Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, and Navin Dalwin from Kerala, were caught in the flood after the center's basement was flooded by heavy rains.

Students' fury over the incident has been widespread, and they are currently staging a protest to call for stern punishment and accountability from those involved. Students have accused Delhi's Municipal Corporation (MCD) of being careless.

In response to the indignation and calls for the enforcement of safety protocols in the locality, Old Rajinder Nagar civic body officials initiated an anti-encroachment campaign. It closed 13 unlawful tutoring centers on Sunday, the day that the area's coaching institutes were concentrated.

Five individuals have been detained in connection with the case and placed in judicial detention for a period of fourteen days. These individuals are Tejinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Sarabjeet Singh, the four co-owners of the coaching center in Rajinder Nagar, and Manuj Kathuria, the driver of a car.

The driver of the car, Kathuria, caused the street to overflow with rainwater, causing the water to rise and breach the coaching center's gates.
