Delhi coaching centre deaths: The owner and coordinator of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar have been arrested. This comes after three students died in their coaching centre due to basement flooding.

The bodies of two female students and one male student were found on the location in the early hours of Sunday. The owner, Abhishek Gupta, and the coordinator, Deshpal Singh, are facing charges of culpable homicide and negligence.

"We have registered an FIR at Rajinder Nagar Police Station under sections 105 (culpable homicide), 106(1) (death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide), 115(2) (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings) and 35 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. So far we have detained two people -- owner and coordinator of the coaching centre," informed M Harsha Vardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

According to the initial investigation, the basement contained a library with several students present. Water suddenly flooded the basement.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)-led search team conducted a seven-hour rescue operation to free the trapped students.

According to the Fire Department, the coaching centre was issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) stating that the basement was only to be used for storage.

The department stated that it would write to the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the MCD to take action against the coaching centre.
