Delhi assembly elections: EC announces poll schedule; Voting to take place on February 5 , results will be declared on February 8

The current term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is set to conclude on February 23. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party is eyeing third consecutive term in the national capital after landslide victories in 2015 and 2020 elections.

Delhi assembly elections: EC announces poll schedule; Voting to take place on February 5 , results will be declared on February 8

PTC News Desk: The election commission of India has announced schedule for Delhi assembly elections. The voting for 70 constituencies will take place on February 5  and the results for the same will be announced on February  8


Rajiv Kumar , chief election officer in a press conference announced the schedule for Delhi assembly elections.

Meanwhile, election commissioner said that certain doubts were raised on EVMs by political parties despite giving them transparent response. " There were certain kinds of concerns that were raised (by political parties). It was said that wrongful addition and deletion were made in electoral rolls... It was also said that certain groups are targeted and their names are deleted. Even after giving a reply about EVM - it was said that EVM can be manipulated, " he said.

The current term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is set to conclude on February 23. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party is eyeing third consecutive term in the national capital after landslide victories in 2015 and 2020 elections.

The Election Commission of India’s announcement prompted the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct. 

The assembly elections in Delhi are all set to witness a three cornered battle with BJP trying to expand its footprint in the national capital after restricting to mere single digit seat and the Congress which was wiped out after governing Delhi for 15 years is trying to reclaim governance while challenging the incumbent AAP. 

Despite contesting Lok Sabha polls in alliance, both Congress and AAP will be contesting assembly elections separately. 

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will face BJP candidate and former West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh, along with former Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit, son of the late Sheila Dikshit, in the New Delhi constituency. In Kalkaji, Chief Minister Atishi will go up against Congress leader Alka Lamba and BJP’s former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri.
