Delhi airport roof collapse: Aviation Minister announces compensation of Rs 20 lakh for deceased's kin
Delhi airport roof collapse: At least one person was killed and six others were injured after a portion of the roof at Delhi airport's Terminal-1 (T1) collapsed onto cars amid heavy rain this morning. The civil aviation ministry announced that all departures from Terminal 1, which handles only domestic flights, have been temporarily suspended.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, visited the airport and inspected Terminal 1. He announced that operations at Terminal 1 would be temporarily shifted to the other two terminals, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu also announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the person who lost his life after a portion of the canopy at Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 that collapsed early this morning amid heavy rainfall.
The Union minister also announced Rs 3 lakh each to those injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, in wake of the canopy collapse incident at Terminal 1 of Delhi airport on Friday morning, all flight operations from Terminal 1 are suspended till further notice, said the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Speaking to reporters at the site, Minister Kinjarapu condoled the loss of life due to heavy rainfall and said four people had been injured.
He said that a team from the emergency response, fire safety, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were immediately sent to the site.
In the wee hours of Friday, Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) saw nonstop rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, which resulted in waterlogging and flooding of the region's roadways.
Waterlogging and heavy traffic jams are some of the significant issues citizens are facing.
Although the rain has provided relief from the scorching heat, visuals of heavy traffic jams and waterlogged streets have emerged from several areas, including Sarita Vihar, Connaught Place, Palam Airport, and Dhaula Kuan.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy skies and varying intensities of rain accompanied by gusty winds in Delhi for the next seven days
