Delhi chokes: National capital becomes gas chamber, air quality slips into 'very poor'
With diwali and other festivals long gone, the air quality if national capital yet keeps deteriorating. After recording a slight improvement, the air quality of Delhi has once again slipped into 'very poor' category. Several regions in the capital region recorded an AQI of over 300.
Dense fog engulfed several parts with visibility dropping zero while Indira Gandhi International Airport recorded near zero levels with vehicles using fog lights on the roads.
Major factor behind the thick fog is the high concentration of smoke in the atmosphere. The smoke, along with dust particles, acts as a surface for water vapor to condense onto, promoting the formation of fog. This rapid condensation significantly reduces visibility, particularly near the ground.
