Delhi air pollution: No immediate respite from hazardous air as AQI dips to 'severe' category
PTC News Desk: The residents of national capital have to grapple with the winter chill along with the hazardous smog that has engulfed the air as there seems to be no respite from hazardous air.
The air quality remained in the 'severe' category after a short period of relief. According to official data, the overall average 24-hour AQI at 8 am on Saturday was recorded at 395.
Delhi's air quality improved momentarily on December 20 when pollution levels subsided however the pollution levels resurged to alarming levels on Sunday afternoon. The first half of December provided some temporary relief, with air on six days rated as 'moderate' following an exceptionally polluted November. The air quality couldn't get any better than 'poor' category.
On the heels of deteriorating air quality, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) IV has been imposed in the national capital from December 16 prompting a complete ban on the construction activities.
These strict measures are intended to prevent the worsening of air pollution. However, with calm winds expected in the coming days, experts caution that immediate relief for residents of Delhi is unlikely.
