Deepfake videos: Sachil Tendulkar becomes latest victim; shares video
PTC Web Desk: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has become the latest celebrity ensnared by deepfake videos in New Delhi. A video circulating on multiple social media platforms portrays Sachin Tendulkar endorsing the gaming app "Skyward Aviator Quest." Not only does the video falsely feature the cricket legend supporting the app, but it also incorrectly says that his daughter, Sara, is benefiting financially from it.
'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar recently took to his social media handle X to express concern about the alarming misuse of technology via deepfake, emphasising the importance of vigilance and prompt action against the dissemination of false information.
"These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers," Sachin Tendulkar took to X to share the information. He also shared the deepfake video.

"Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes," he said.
Deepfakes represent a type of synthetic media created through artificial intelligence, utilising advanced algorithms to manipulate both visual and audio components. The term gained prominence in 2017 with the introduction of a platform on Reddit for sharing altered videos.
Sachin Tendulkar's case is not an isolated incident, as similar instances have affected public figures like actors Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra, prompting governments to formulate strategies to combat the malicious use of this technology.
