Death fire incident: Man dies of suffocation in Income Tax office fire; 7 rescued

New Delhi, May 14: A man died of suffocation after a fire at Income Tax office in Delhi on Tuesday.  The fire broke out at the Central Revenue Building in the ITO area on Tuesday. A total of 21 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The deceased, a 46-year-old male, worked as an office superintendent there, it is learnt. Seven persons were rescued from the building.

Viral videos on social media showed the occupants of the building seeking shelter on the window ledge as they fled from the fire.

Officials from Delhi Fire Services said they were alerted to a fire at the Income Tax CR building at 3:07 pm. Responding swiftly, they dispatched 21 fire tenders to the scene. The local police was also informed to conduct further investigation and ensure public safety.


Situated across from the old Police Headquarters, which houses certain police units, the building became a scene of chaos as occupants sought refuge on window ledges, as seen in circulating social media videos. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
