Congress President Kharge takes a dig at leaders' holy dip in Maha Kumbh; irked BJP responds
PTC News Desk: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has stired a political slugfest over his remarks at holy dip in Maha Kumbh. Kharge has questioned the significance of taking holy dip in the Ganga while accusing BJP leaders of turning the sacred ritual into a competition.
"Does taking a dip in the Ganga remove poverty? Does it provide food? I don't want to hurt anyone's faith, and I apologise if my words have hurt anyone. But while children are dying of hunger, unable to go to school, and labourers are not getting paid, BJP leaders are competing to take dips in the Ganga. They keep doing it until they look good on TV. The nation will not benefit from such people," Kharge said.
Congress leader has also accused saffron party leaders of competition to take a dip in holy river and ignoring key issues like children dying of hunger, lack of education, and widespread poverty.
Kharge's remarks comes on the very day Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in the ritual and took a holy dip in Ganga.
Irked BJP was quick to respond to Kharge's remarks and accused Congress of targeting Hindus.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra criticised Kharge's remarks, calling them an attack on Sanatan Dharma. "Can he say such things about any other religion? Such statements are condemnable, and the Congress party must provide an explanation. This is the same Kharge who said they would destroy Sanatan Dharma if they came to power," Patra said.
Fumed BJP leader Amit malviya also joined Patra accusing Congress of harbouring animosity towards Hindus.
"Kharge ji is speaking, but the words are of the Gandhi family. Why does the Congress hate Hindus so much? The Maha Kumbh comes once in 144 years, but Congress leaders are so agitated that they curse Hindus. First, Hussain Dalvi mocked the Kumbh, and now Kharge has opened a front. Congress has become the new Muslim League, and its extinction is in the nation's interest," Malviya said.
